Changing hair color is a simple yet great way to change or update your look!
The whole duration of my pregnancy (Which was just last year?! Amazing how time flies!), I can count through my fingers the few times I have visited a salon. First was when I had to have a pedicure for my aching toes. Second was for a haircut before my bestie Jajabink’s wedding. And lastly for a blowout for my birthday-baby shower. And these salon visits are all in Manila!
Fast-forward to today, seven months postpartum, I had a chance to finally have a hair makeover, in a trusted salon near our place in Cavite no less. Introducing, Status Hair Salon Cavite!

Who knew they already have their first provincial branch. Well, I sure did not let this opportunity pass me by as my tired tresses are truly in dire need of some pampering. I was given a choice between a hair treatment (i.e. rebond, keratin, digiperm etc.) or a hair color. I chose the latter because having a gray hair runs in our family.
But since I am exclusively breastfeeding, I’m worried that the chemicals will affect my breast milk and affect my baby. I had to consult my mommy group for other moms who had hair treatments or hair color done while they are breastfeeding. I received a positive number of moms who had hair colors done while breastfeeding and they reassured that it is ok and there were no bad effect on their babies through their breast milk. Some moms even cheered for me to do it since that’s a simple pampering I can do after all the “work” we’re doing for our babies. I couldn’t agree more that we deserve some pamper-me-time in-between breastfeeding and changing nappies.
Hairstylist Romer, checked my hair and I discussed what hair color I wanted — ash blonde. But since I naturally have very dark hair with specks of gray for almost my whole life existence, and this is my first time in a long time to have a hair color (aside from henna dye shampoos I use to cover my gray hair), he discussed my “hair’s condition” and suggested to have a brown-blonde hair color for now. Trying to achieve light blondes will require tons of bleaching agents, time and patience, amongst others. And since I have my baby and husband with me, I agreed with the brown-blonde hair color.
[My B took our baby out of the salon whenever the smell of the chemicals is too strong.]
Romer prepped my hair by bleaching for 15 minutes. Washed and rinsed, then the hair color was applied. He monitored my hair’s absorption of the colorant, and I just had to let it sit on my hair for about 20 minutes. Washed and rinsed again. And since he wanted to give my hair a “treat”, he did a balayage technique, and painted my hair, and I let it stay for about 15 minutes more.
After the final wash and rinse, I’m happy with the result. Presenting my brown-blonde new hair color!
My whole Status Hair Salon experience was wonderful. From the knowledgeable stylist to the caring and attentive staff, and even the generously nice owners, they made me feel comfortable and at ease.
Seeing hair kits being endorsed almost everywhere makes hair coloring looks so easy, but you should know that dying your own hair when you’re not completely knowledgeable about how chemicals interact with your hair is too risky.
In order to avoid irreversible damage, I suggest you consult a professional colorist or stylist before chemically altering your hair color. Consultations are free and do not require booking a service upfront. And if you happen to be in Imus Cavite, Status Hair Salon is having a special promo of 50% off for hair color and treatments! There’s no better time than now to treat your hair with a new color, or hair treatment or both!
As of writing, about a week after my hair color treatment, I’m happy to report that there are no signs of bad effects on my baby through my breast milk. Everything’s great!
Side note: We love CityMall! It was our first time to ever be on one, and we love it. Maybe it’s the lifestyle area where there is an indoor playground and lots of benches or because there aren’t many people at the same time we were there. In turn we didn’t feel stressed to be in a mall. Plus, the attentive cleaning staff at their food court found and returned our diaper bag! It’s the first time ever we forgot our diaper bag. Whew!
Disclaimer: I was invited to try a hair salon treatment complimentary of Status Hair Salon Cavite, but my words and opinion are my own.
