Pregnancy Update: 18 Weeks and 3 Days

Pregnancy Update: 18 Weeks and 3 Days (July 11) ||| Top: Forever 21

One of the major reasons why I started this blog was to document special and memorable aspects of my life, which started with my little dates with my B when we were still dating as well as when we were planning for our wedding and marriage. And now, I am so excited to be starting this new chapter of our lives together as parents-to-be! What a better way to celebrate that than to document it here and share with you, our families and friends, who have been following our little corner here. I’m so ecstatic for our little family of two to start growing and to look back on this special journey and be amazed with every little detail that would probably be forgotten when things get a little chaotic once our baby is born.

baby’s size:

a croissant!

my mood:

I’ve been ravenous! My appetite for food increased or let’s say went back to normal. Headaches have been re-appearing in the scene lately.

my symptoms:

Vivid dreams, cravings, abdominal ache and pains, headaches, leg cramps, linea negra, backache, forgetfulness, bloating, breast engorgement, constipation

Pregnancy Diary: A Look Back at My First Trimester

Digital art. Fresh Start.

The blessing of pregnancy breathe a new life into our lives and relationship. It’s a refreshing feeling of a “fresh start”.

As of today, I’m 20 weeks and 6 days pregnant. I’m happy that I am done with my first trimester and already in the middle of my second trimester. As I look back on my first trimester, what I can remember mostly is how my body “gave up” on me. I’m always hungry, sleepy and easily tired.

My days were a routine of eating, sleeping, resting. On repeat.

My happiness.

I’m happy about the fact that I did not experience the somewhat horrible morning sickness. I’ve heard about family members’ and friends’ experiences about it, and that alarmed me long before I got pregnant. I’m happy about how hands-on my B was and still is, understanding what I’m physically and emotionally going through and helping me get through it. I’m happy how supportive and caring my family and in-laws are since our families and closest friends are the only ones who knew about our pregnancy, before we made it Facebook official.

It also amazes us how each week passed by easily. When we checked our pregnancy calendar per week it’s as if our pregnancy is zooming past us, not that we’re complaining though.

My worries.

Call me weird but since my first trimester went on as smooth as it possibly can, I got worried that my pregnancy was weird or that something bad is happening inside my belly. I think it’s called paranoid!

My First Trimester Symptoms

Mood swings. This is when I seemed like a crazy person crying over little things and laughing at the mundane, almost simultaneously. Imagine hot tears and hearty laughs.

Hot flashes. No matter what time of the day it is nor where I am, I always feel hot! I can take cold showers (which wasn’t my usual favorite) and hang out in the room while ac’s blasting, but I still feel hot.

Food aversions. I have heightened sense of smell like Wolverine. I puke on the smell of freshly cut onion or garlic, and sometimes the smell of raw meat cooking.

Physical changes. This is the awkward phase in pregnancy where I am not showing yet but I sure look bloated from a sumptuous buffet.

Urge to pee. I peed the most during this first trimester. I bugged B to accompany me to the loo countless of times especially in the wee hours.

First OB/GYNE. I’ve first consulted with my B’s aunt’s OB. Let’s just say it wasn’t the most enlightening doctor’s appointments we had especially for a first-time mom like me.

Cravings. This is not limited to food. I feel like my B is one of my cravings or pinaglilihihan because I could not bear not seeing him, hugging him, sniffing him! I also had random food cravings which seemed trivial now but what I remembered most was my cravings for Pancit Bihon.

Vivid dreams. These were dreams that can bag the award for Best in Cinematography but with weird screenplay.

Overall, I’m one of the lucky moms-to-be that went on a smooth first trimester. Here’s hoping to a continuous smooth sailing pregnancy until I deliver my baby safely. xo

Pregnancy Preparation

Pregnancy Preparation

Mobile Apps (L-R, T-B): Human, Noom Coach, Water Lite, Ovia, Ovia Pregnancy and St. Luke’s Medical Center

Since we decided that we are ready to have our little bundle of joy, I started prepping up myself and my body. I did not exactly Google what I have to do, but I made sure we (Yes, we! Not just me!) stay perfectly healthy, generally. We made efforts to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Here’s what I did when we were trying to conceive.

5 ways to prepare your body for pregnancy:

  1. Track your way to a healthy lifestyle. I started tracking my calorie intake, water intake,  daily activities and movements so I don’t get too idle for too long. For this, I’m using different mobile apps. This routine helped me stay on track especially during busy days.
  2. Eat nutritiously. Your body’s fuel are the food you eat. Ensure that you are injecting nutritious meals into your diet as much as possible. More fruits and vegetables, less sugary and processed food although an occasional cravings for sweets are acceptable.
  3. Take prenatal vitamins. During those months when we were TTC (trying to conceive), I already took folic acid amongst other vitamins. This is to help boost fertility and ensure that I’m getting all the nutrients I’ll need during early pregnancy.
  4. Drop bad vices. Smoking, alcohol and too much caffeine as we all know are not good in any way for our health. Although I don’t smoke or drink alcohol, I occasionally allow myself to enjoy a little bit of caffeine thru my green tea and coffee.
  5. Track your fertility. I used this free app to help me track my ovulation and fertile windows. It also has helpful articles and advice on what we should be doing while trying to conceive.

Of course, ensuring you are not under a lot of stress helps a lot too! What were your ways or techniques in trying to conceive? Would love to hear them! xx

An Announcement: Oh Yes, We Are!

An Announcement: Oh Yes, We Are!

After  the longest wait of my life, we happily announced that YES, WE ARE PREGNANT!

B and I have been together for eight years total. Naturally, there was a phase when people around us were bugging us with questions about having a baby. Although that was never an issue for us, it never really bothered us.

I believe we both had a change of heart when we celebrated our first year wedding anniversary last November 2014. Suddenly there were talks about our plans on conceiving, how many kids do we want and ultimately when are we going to “work” on it. We started consciously trying during our anniversary getaway. I have always had monthly regular periods but I took an effort to monitor my peak days, etc (more about my “techniques” on my next post).

On our first two months of trying, I kind of felt a little panicked, thinking why am I still having my periods. I thought it’s going to be an instant thing! On our third, fourth and fifth month, I tried my best to drop off my worries and see it as a wonderful and kilig time to bond with B. Hehehe.

Come April, I had a dysmenorrhea-like pains without the actual period. Then in an instant, I felt like “this is it!”. I secretly took a pregnancy test last Easter Sunday (April 5). I wanted to surprise B with my announcement. I even fancied this idea that I would wrap my pregnancy test kit and hand it to him as my “Just because gift” for him.
