As I was browsing “Gentle Birth Philippines” FB group, I came across this topic about this famous birthing house called “Shiphrah Bahay Paanakan”. Mommies who gave birth there were raving about it so much that it piqued my interest, so I started researching about it.

On my Google search, I found a blog post that started it all. After reading that mom’s gentle birth experience, I felt a calling that THIS is also how I want my own birth experience to be. Her words are so powerful and resonated with me deeply. I eagerly searched for Shiphrah’s contact details to find out if they can still accept me even if I’m already on my last trimester. I anxiously called and spoke to one of the midwives. She advised me to pay a visit the following Wednesday. I was asked to bring all my prenatal medical records. I felt a bit excited. It felt as if I’m entering a whole new world, a new territory.

Changing from one sleeping position to the next is a challenge with my heavy bump and aches of my bones.

This is such a trying and emotional time for me. I haven’t been well for about three days now and husband and I haven’t been sleeping well for two days now because of the many arguments we engaged in.

We sleep without patching things up. Not our agreed upon relationship habits. *cry emoticon*

my mood:

It’s been a roller coaster week. Ever since the seed of gentle birthing was planted in my head, I have been researching like crazy!

my symptoms:

Pelvic girdle pain. This is very common especially in the last trimester. Good thing mine is a minor ache — a few twinges, a general feeling of heaviness and stress in my pelvic region.

Shortness of breath. My technique here? Proper posture. It gives my lungs a little more room to breathe, literally.

Tender breasts. Look but don’t touch, darling. Haha!

Tingling hands / carpal tunnel. Very common in many expecting women especially those who work at computers.

Leg cramps. Tip: Straighten your leg and gently flex your ankle and toes back toward your shins several times.

Swelling. Yup, I have fatter feet in the evening.

Backaches. I avoided lifting heavy loads, or I do it slowly. Better safe than sorry.

Abdominal ache and pain. I experience “growing pains” around my middle tummy area.

Uterine tenderness. It’s a feeling of soreness in my womb.

Constipation. I need to increase my fiber intake. Maybe 2 pears a day?

Your kicks are getting stronger and stronger. Mommy might feel pain, but as long as you’re growing and developing well in my belly, it’s all worth it. Mommy and daddy love you so much! 💕

I was chatting with my ex-colleagues about pregnancy, breastfeeding and motherhood. This is when the seed of gentle birth was planted in my head. My friend specifically advice me to OWN MY BIRTH. She also asked me to join this Facebook group called “Gentle Birth Philippines”. That same night I requested to join the group, little did I know that it’s going to be the start of my more meaningful pregnancy journey.

my mood:

For some weird reason, my fondness for my B is turning to annoyance. Sorry, B. Although I also don’t like this feeling so I am hoping that I resolve whatever it is that’s bugging me and start being fond of him again.

my symptoms:

Tender breasts. They’re getting bigger and heavier, and super tender!

Numbness / tingling. This pins-and-needles feeling usually happens in the morning, as soon as I wake up, I can feel it in my hands.

Leg cramps. This annoying symptom is becoming a regular every morning. One time my subconscious event know that I will feel the cramps so I immediately know what to do even if I just woke up.

Shortness of breath. It looks like baby is crowding my lungs so much!

Swelling. Even though I am sleeping with my feet elevated, this does not seem to go away. I guess I really have to buy a bigger pair of shoes, aside from wearing my Birks.

Abdominal pelvic cramping. This felt like I’m having dysmenorrhea.

Manic Monday reflection – what makes you feel loved?

At first, the posted question sounded easy, and I knew it would be easy for me to answer. Although as I pondered my answer through it, there are just too many levels, ways and people that make me feel loved.

But then there is this one person who emerges in my thoughts, and to whom I am extremely grateful for making me feel most loved, my husband. Ever since we were boyfriends-girlfriends, I appreciate how much he is attuned with my needs — as a woman, as a person, and as his partner. He understands my need for his full attention to the present; my need for an embrace in replacement of more word battle; my need for an open communication line and my need for little dates from time to time.
