Review: Nivea Body Lotion In-Shower Intensive Skin Conditioner

Taking care of my face is something I am proud of being able to do quite on a regular basis. Facial wash, facial scrub, skin activating lotion, face serum and moisturizer — the works. Sadly however, I cannot say the same for my body care. On a daily basis, I am satisfied with just bathing or showering with my usual, trusted regular bar soap. Rinse off then dressed up and I’m done. This is not to say that my skin survived because clearly I have unsightly white marks when I scratch my skin.

Manila and Cavite weather is generally sunny, hot and humid. Other than the fact that I don’t have time to put on lotion and let it dry before I carry my baby or rush to feed him (I direct-feed him so I skip lotion to ensure we don’t feel sticky together, literally and figuratively.), I intentionally skip putting lotion especially during the day since I dread the sticky feel I get after sweating.

Therefore, I got excited about trying this new type of body care that is an in-shower skin conditioner that you can use in the shower and rinse off!

This new in-shower skin conditioner by NIVEA has three variants, and I got to try the intensive variant recommended for dry skin. This is the variant that has the signature NIVEA blue bottle.

You might wonder how an in-shower skin conditioner really works? Well, when the skin is wet, pores open up and it is pretty much the best time for skin to absorb nourishment easily. The NIVEA In-Shower Skin Conditioner is actually activated by water to fully moisturize and repair dry skin. What it does then is that it leaves a nourishing film on the skin surface without the sticky feel.

HOW TO USE:
1. SHOWER. Take a shower as usual and use your normal shower product. Rinse off.
2. APPLY. Apply the new NIVEA Skin Conditioner while still in the shower. The wet skin can directly take up the unique water-activated formula so that it is easily and quickly absorbed.
3. RINSE. Wait some seconds and rinse off residues shortly.

Pros:
This is the first time I have tried an in-shower conditioner, and I’m definitely excited. The first thing I loved about it is the scent, maybe from the almond oil. It’s so so good and it lingers even after the shower. I used it after showering with my usual body soap. The convenience of the bottle packaging is a plus point. I squeezed some product onto my palm, and applied it first on my neck and then arms just like how I would with regular lotion. It’s texture is more of a runny lotion rather than thick lotion.

It felt like you are applying a regular lotion except that you apply it onto your wet skin. It glided smoothly on every inch of my body. The water activates the product making it easier to apply.

It is enriched with almond oil and is quickly absorbed by wet skin and deeply replenishes moisture.

The minute I’m done covering my entire body, I started rinsing it off. No need to wait! I take time to massage every part of my body to ensure I have rinsed off the product.

It’s an extra step in the shower that I will gladly take because it only takes about 60 seconds and I dare say it saves my skin from drying during the day. I no longer need to put on lotion after I have showered, and yet I keep my skin moisturized.

Note that I have combination skin type and it leaves my skin feeling silky soft instantly. I cannot vouch if this will work as effectively with dry skin, as promised. I even skip applying lotion after shower because this alone is good enough for my skin moisturization.

Cons:
It develops a slippery texture as it interacts with the water. The first time I’ve used it, I applied it literally all over my body including my underarms. I felt weird even after rinsing it off since it left a film of lotion at least on my underarms, making it feel slimy. It also interfered with my deodorant. Tip: Do not apply it on areas you don’t want to feel slimy or sweaty.

As long as your skin is still wet after rinsing, it can feel slimy. So it might get some “getting used to” in using this. But as soon as you towel off or pat dry, no problem. Generally, it does not leave any residual sticky feeling. The slimy feeling will be gone, leaving you with just a moisturized skin.

And because of the ingredient (which I’m not sure what) that is activated by water, it can get slippery on your shower floor. So be careful especially if you use a bath tub. I suggest avoid applying it to the bottom of feet either.

One thing to note though, you’ll need more of the product to cover your whole body.

Overall,  I really love this product! I have been using it for a couple of weeks already, and I’ve been loving how easy it is to keep my skin moisturized so easily. It saves me the hassle of having to apply body lotion after I have showered, which is annoying and I’m really not able to do.

If you love this product as much as I do, or you want to try it for yourself, grab a sample from SampleroomPH!

Mother’s Edition

Active and Playful #LittleAdamBryce

With my active and playful, #LittleAdamBryce. Photo taken at our last out of town trip to Tagaytay, Charito by Bag of Beans last 11 September 2016, by Daddy Brian.

When you are a stay-at-home, hands-on, first-time mom to a Velcro baby, you probably get me. Your arms ache from holding him day and night. You adjusted sleeping with a 10-kilo weight on your chest where your baby sleeps. You miss preparing and eating an actual meal with both of your hands. You know no luxury of deciding what to do on nap time — he needs to stick to you in order to sleep. When he sleeps, you can’t move. You probably have your work on your smartphone, the only thing you can manage to operate single-handedly while pinned down on bed. I’m writing this lying in bed, cradling and nursing my son.

Constant need to nurse, want to be carried, sticks like a glue, light-sleeper, demanding, highly sensitive — these will probably spread yourself too thin, to the point of breakage.
I call it melt-down. I didn’t keep tabs how many times I snapped and broke down, feeling drained. But tomorrow’s another day for motherhood.
Some nights I can’t even brush my teeth, more so to shower. So when I do get my elusive break…
…here’s how I re-center myself and elevate my me-time and make it more special.

In the morning

Writing to-do list

Jotting notes and to-do list

Ideally in the morning, I jot down my random, scattered thoughts and ideas on a piece of pretty paper and gold-inked pen. It’s an incredibly effective way to release the noise in my head, and organize my thoughts. I feel calm when I can clearly read what I need to achieve. There’s a magical, fulfilling feeling when I’m able to tick off items on my to-do list.

In the afternoon

Reading a book with a cup of tea

Reading a book with a cup of tea

Probably my most fancy me-time is sipping a hot cup of mother’s milk tea with a book on hand. Currently on my reading-list is The Nesting Place. It’s teaching me that “someday” is now. Creating a beautiful home now, wherever we are.

At late night

Nivea In-Shower Skin Conditioner

Adding Nivea In-Shower Skin Conditioner to my late-night shower routine for a luxurious bath after a long, draining day.

Recently my son is forming a sleeping routine. By nine, he doze off while sleep-feeding. He sleeps lightly with a few tossing and turning, before finally having a deep sleep. That’s around eleven at night. When I successfully avoided to sleep myself, I sneak out of the room and into the bathroom.
Yellow lights and warm water puts me in a calm, relaxed mood. I elevate my routine and add a skin conditioner after my body wash or body soap. I’m currently using Nivea In-Shower Skin Conditioner. It’s creamy lotion formula activates as it interacts with water. It feels luxurious for me like treating myself to a body oil and body lotion in one. I use this quiet time as a therapeutic treatment to soothe my aching body and anxious mind.
How about you ladies, what do you incorporate to elevate your daily routine and to keep sane?
